Electrical
You may renew your license in an inactive status. In order to renew/revive in an inactive status, a written request is required. You may use the Inactive Request Form or send in a written statement or email stating you wish to renew/revive inactive. No permits can be issued and no electrical contracting work can be performed while the license is in this status. Proof of insurance and a $30.00 reinstatement fee are required to return the license to an active status. You will need to provide the Division with a written statement you that wish to renew in an inactive status.
The license for the supervising license must be active (renewed) before this license can be renewed.
You must renew/revive your license within (1) one year of the expiration date or you will be required to make application and test before receiving a new license. The fee and the additional requirements must be received before your license will be renewed/revived.
Renewal Fees:
- $100.00 if paid by expiration date
- $125.00 if paid after the expiration date, but before the license has been expired for a year
You will be required to supply the 24 hours of continuing education. See below for the breakdown and how to obtain these courses.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs):
Each licensed Journeyman and Master electrician must provide 24 hours of Idaho approved continuing education in order to renew their license. Of the 24 hours, 8 hours must be Code Update. The remaining 16 hours of continuing education can be from any combination of the three categories of Idaho approved continuing education that include Code Update, Code Related, or Industry Related. These credits must have been obtained in the three (3) year period between renewal of such licenses. Additionally, licensed individuals will be able to receive up to four (4) hours of continuing education credit by attending board meetings and negotiated rule meetings.
CEU course records are managed through CE Broker.
Renewal Fees:
- $45.00 if paid by expiration date
- $55.00 if paid after the expiration date, but before the license has been expired for a year
*Your registration/license card must be current for all your time to count towards the required work experience to become a journeyman. Time shall not be credited if your card is inactive.
In addition to the renewal fee, Electrical Apprentices applying for renewal must submit one of the following:
- A completion certificate for one year of approved schooling.
- Complete 24 hours of approved continuing education from the approved courses available through CE Broker (cebroker.com). 8 hours must be an NFPA 70E course and the other 16 hours may be code-update, code-related, or industry-related. *These courses must be posted to your CE Broker Account before your renewal will be processed.
- A letter from an approved school, on school letterhead, stating that you have completed at least 24 hours of class time for the current renewal period. (This is applicable if you are currently enrolled in an approved school but have not completed the full year.)
Renewal Fees:
- $15.00 if paid by expiration date
- $15.00 if paid after the expiration date, but before the license has been expired for a year
To advance to the next level of apprenticeship the applicant shall show proof of the following:
Apprentice: This is a first-time registration or a registration renewal of an individual who does not have the education and hours necessary to advance to Apprentice level 1. This person cannot have previously held a journeyman or master electrician license from a recognized jurisdiction.
Apprentice level 1: Is a registered apprentice who has submitted proof of completion of 2000 hours of verified work experience and completion of 1 year of an approved school.
Apprentice level 2: Is a registered apprentice who has submitted proof of completion of 4000 hours of verified work experience and completion of 2 years of an approved school.
Apprentice level 3: Is a registered apprentice who has submitted proof of completion of 6000 hours of verified work experience and completion of 3 years of an approved school.
Apprentice level 4: Is a registered apprentice who has submitted proof of completion of 8000 hours of verified work experience and completion of 4 years of an approved school. Apprentice level 4 are qualified to test for the Idaho Journeyman examination.

Per IDAPA 07.01.04.012 in order for you to renew your Electrical Specialty Trainee license you must provide the following: A minimum of 2,000 hours of on the job experience (an Employers Verification form can be found under Electrical Forms and Applications.
The fee and the additional requirements must be received before your license will be renewed/revived.
Renewal/Revival Fees:
- $25.00 if paid by expiration date
- $30.00 if paid after the expiration date, but before the license has been expired for a year
There are no additional requirements except what is listed on your renewal notice.
Renewal Fees:
- $45.00 if paid by expiration date
- $55.00 if paid after the expiration date, but before the license has been expired for a year
These licenses renew annually. The designated supervising license must be active in order to maintain and/or renew your license.
Renewal Fees: $125.00
Plumbing
You must renew/revive your license within (2) two years of the expiration date or you will be required to make application and test before receiving a new license. You may use the Inactive Request Form or send in a written statement or email stating you wish to renew/revive inactive. The fee and the additional requirements must be received before your license will be renewed/revived.
You may renew your license for one (1) year without providing proof of the bond if you place your license in an inactive status. You will need to provide a written statement that you wish to renew your license in an inactive status and that you will not be contracting any plumbing work while your license is in this status. Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
Contractors must complete sixteen (16) hours of continuing education for every three-year license cycle. Hours accrued obtaining journeyman education may be applied toward this requirement whenever applicable.

- $147.00 if paid after the expiration date, but before the license has been expired for two years
- $36.00 for an inactive renewal/revival. Must be paid before the license has been expired for two years

Continuing Education Units (CEUs):
Plumbing journeyman are required to supply a minimum of 8 hours of continuing education to renew their license. Journeymen must complete eight (8) hours of continuing education for every three-year license cycle, or complete an exam administered by the Division. Of the required eight (8) hours, four (4) hours must be plumbing code update related and the other four (4) hours may be industry related training.
Those holding a valid journeyman license may take the CEU exam administered by the Division of Building Safety. A fee of fifty ($50) dollars must be paid before taking the exam. Click here for information regarding CEUs.

HVAC

You may renew your license for three (3) years without providing proof of the bond if you place your license in an inactive status. You may use the Inactive Request Form or send in a written statement or email stating you wish to renew/revive inactive. You will need to provide a written statement that you wish to renew your license in an inactive status and that you will not be contracting any HVAC work while your license is in this status. Renewal Fees:
- $150.00 if paid by expiration date
- $185.00 if paid after the expiration date, but before the license has been expired for one year

Manufactured Housing
You may renew/revive your license within (6) months of the expiration date or you will be required to make application and test before receiving a new license. The fee and the additional requirements must be received before your license will be renewed/revived.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs):
Installers must submit (8) eight hours of continuing education every 3 years. Your license will still be on an annual basis.
